Blueberry survives a buffalo stampede, bar shoot-up and inferno, and steel-fingered beatings. But the bad guys triumph by sniping Indians and scotching negotiations. Blueberry and crew barely escape on a roaring train over a burning bridge. Now he needs to settle with Steelfingers...

Continuing... Blueberry's assignment is to see the Union Pacific railroad pushes through. "Steelfingers" sabotages efforts for the rival Central Pacific. The town is surrounded by stirred-up Sioux. Blueberry sneaks out a train with a $200K payroll. Steelfingers connives with Sitting Bull to raid the train (and rob it). When the train is cut off, besieged, and set afire, Blueberry manages to save lives and bury the payroll. But their troubles are just beginning...

Continuing... Blueberry is caught by Steelfingers and Indians, and stalls to protect the soldiers' $200K payroll. Jimmy and Red send a fake telegram of reinforcement on the way. The Indians, trusting "Broken Nose", let Blueberry free, but as he digs up the payroll, is robbed by Steelfingers. Sent back to town, Blueberry is accusing of stealing and will be lynched. Yet the Indians return the payroll, having killed Steelfingers for failing to deliver guns. All's well, until General Allister arrives and orders the army to wipe out the Indians!..

Blueberry, branded a coward and traitor, and Red and Jimmy try to keep both soldiers and Indians alive as they scrap in firefights, cross icy rivers, and flounder in snow. Despite all obstacles, Blueberry gets a message out. Reinforcements drive off the Indians, and many lives are saved. But General Allister vows revenge on Blueberry. "FIN"
