The "Old Man" returns. The Old Man claims that he is an alien, and that Connell, as the new bearer of the Star Brand, has a duty to return with him to another world and assist him in an alien war. Connell suspects the Old Man is not telling the truth and guesses that his previous experiences with the Old Man and the alien were illusions. Later, the Old Man attacks Debbie to trick Connell into leaving Barb and her kids so he can take them hostage. Connell figures out the plan and attacks the Old Man. The battle takes the pair from earth into space. The Old Man abandons Connell lost in space.
