Alexandre and Maximillion are investigating a secret lair of the Brotherhood of Darkness when the leader of the Brotherhood, Sonatine, and his men arrive. Sonatine digs through the treasure chest and finds a lost book by Cervantes which he promises to read to Alexandre after which he plans on killing her. In the story, Cervantes and Sancho Panza are shacking up in a local barn because the hostel it connects to is being occupied by members of the Inquisition. They find the barn has a previous tenant as well, the gypsy Michaelangelo Estacado who is hiding out after a dalliance with the maid.
