Professor Fleming explores his uncharted brain theories on his young son Roger. Soviet spies want the professor, the son and the theories behind the reality. But they run the professor and the boy off of a road during a car chase and leave them for dead. The professor dies but the boy survives and wanders off. Soon Roger is found by Abel Strong. Abel and his wife Martha adopt the lost child, and name him "Lancelot".

Lancelot and Spud find Professor Fleming's wrecked car years after the accident. Lancelot also finds Fleming's notes, eqiupment and a costume that fits him perfectly. The costume seems to activate his powers. As soon as he dons it, he defends the earth against a gigantic alien invader.

Lancelot goes back to the wreckage, but finds it has been removed. Concentrating, Lancelot sees his life in reverse, remembering his real father and his experiments. He dons his Shield costume and follows the tire tracks to a Soviet spy ring-- the same one that killed his father 15 years earlier.

After being drafted into the army, Private Strong stops a suposedly unmanned atomic tank from accidently killing Colonel Smith and his niece. But the three of them and the tank are shrunk by Dr. Diablq, who has grand designs for the tank.
