When Aquaman discovers a giant alien starfish bent on conquering Earth, he activates his Justice League signal device to call together the heroes of the Justice League of America. Batman and Superman are detained elsewhere. After Aquaman's briefing, Flash then divides the group up to defeat the menace.

Green Lantern saves an Air Force jet brought down by Starro. Starro then steals an atom bomb from the jet and detonates it, absorbing all of its energy. After a brief battle with Green Lantern, the deputy returns to its normal size.

Starro reveals that it can absorb atomic energy for space flight, has absorbed great knowledge from the scientists and can possess humans. The Justice League are unable to defeat it until Green Lantern discovers that Snapper is covered in lime, which protected him from Starro's possession. The Justice League then covers Starro in tons of lime, imprisoning it forever. In gratitude for his help, Snapper is inducted inot the Justice League as its first honorary member.
