Elna; Jim Norwood; Patty; Janet; Tom Smith; Victor Morton
Elna works her way through college by baby-sitting and dish-washing. When handsome Jim asks Elna on a date, she borrows a dress from her roommate Patty. Patty works as a paid escort (“strictly on the level…no funny business”). To afford new clothes, Elna signs up as well. Jim and Elna become engaged, but she can’t quit her job or tell Jim or she'll break her contract. Victor blackmails Elna into dating him, and jealous Janet exposes them to Jim. Jim is angry to learn Elna is a “party girl,” but when a tearful Elna dashes into traffic and is nearly killed, Jim realises he still loves her.
