Little Archie has to make a speech in class about the history of Riverdale, but he can't find out anything interesting about the town, either from a book or from other people. He goes to the town square to see the statue of Riverdale's founder, Colonel Joshua Carson, but the inscription has no useful information either. But that night, when he and Spotty go for a walk past Carson's Creek, a strange but friendly old man appears to tell Little Archie some fascinating facts about what that creek has meant to Riverdale and America -- and he even throws in a bit of juicy gossip.
