While buying a sweater as a present for her dad, Karen meets Russ. She sees the coat-of-arms on his blazer and he tells her his uncle is a count but doesn't want to tell anyone. They start seeing each other over the following months and fall in love, but he never takes her to visit his family. Eventually, one of Karen's jealous friends shows her that Russ is a phony who lives in a run-down shack in a rough neighborhood.

Patsy is a shy, small-town girl who feels she is plain compared to her sister Ginny. When Patsy becomes pen-pals with a soldier overseas she puts a photograph of her sister in a letter instead of hew own picture, assuming she would never actually meet him. A few weeks later, Patsy accompanies Ginny to a dance and Patsy sees the soldier looking for her.

She starts seeing her sister's marriage in a new light and wonders if she will ever get another chance at love.
