Richie sabotages his own car with sand in the wheels and loose steering gear. Racing, he drags his feet, cuts off Butch and gets punched in the eye, but loses to Johnny. Mister Rich checks the car - "I wonder?". Richie says, "You told me to do my best!" His father replies, "And I'm prouder of you than if you had won!"
