At the time this story was published, the western genre dominated the television landscape. The names of some of the more popular such shows are parodied in Ludwig’s evening of TV viewing (page 1, panel 5)… “Wagon Smoke”, “Gun Train”, and “Cowhide” – (“Wagon Train”, “Gunsmoke” and “Rawhide”). “Roy Ranger” is most likely a similar parody reference to cowboy star Roy Rogers.

Possibly written by Don R. Christensen. His notes indicate a 5-page Ludwig Von Drake story for a "May '62 o.s." (one-shot), and this book was released in May. The overall plot and final panel's dialogue fall into his observed writing patterns. - Joe Torcivia (2020)
