Akton [also misspelled Ackton] Miller.
This story is based on an actual racing event featuring drag race pioneer "Ak" Miller (1921-2005). In 1950, for La Carrera Panamericana, a race that spans the entire length of Mexico, Miller built his Ak Miller Special, a vehicle that had an Oldsmobile engine and a 1950 Ford chassis under a 1927 Model T Ford body. According to racing lore, the Mexicans called it "Ensalada" because it was a "salad" of parts. Miller competed each year 1950-54, and came in fifth in 1954, which this story dramatizes.
