I have heard of this Axel-a completely heartless criminal-
The police and mob boss Nick Gatt use their own ways to try to find the mysterious Axel and keep him from harming Annie. Gatt's methods are more brutal--and more effective.

Oh, poppycock-why you act as if old Papa Gregory was an ogre...
Buck shoots Gregory as the shopkeeper tries to take Annie into a back room where Axel's men are waiting. Axel gives Gregory's wife the assignment of bringing Annie to him. She slips Annie some drugged candy and Axel's men grab her and shoot Sandy. While Axel tries to get some information from Annie, Byron Bolo, a mysterious playboy, comes to town and tries to convince the public that Nick Gatt is the one who kidnapped Annie.

You will talk---(whack!) You'll talk plenty--
Annie finds out that Axel and his followers plan to take over the country. She manages to get a message to Nick Gatt's men and Gatt rescues her from Axel and takes her to his mountain hideout. Gatt captures one of Axel's men and he tells Gatt how the takeover will happen.

Without leaders, the rest of that mob wouldn't be dangerous-
While Nick Gatt is trying to figure out a way to stop Axel, Byron Bolo is working on a plan to eliminate Gatt and take over his rackets. Some of the businessmen go to John Tecum, the District Attorney, with misgivings about Bolo. Axel's top generals have all gathered in the waterfront hideout when Gatt's men move in, disguised as policemen, and take them to a ship bound for their "home country."
