Notes:
This Sid Check story has a definite relationship to two other stories that appeared in Charlton's Figthin' Marines #26 (August 1958) and Attack #54 (1958, no month provided). "Brother Against Brother" in Attack #54 appears to be the beginning of a much longer "history" of the Civil War, and "Lee's Surrender at Appomattox" in Fightin'' Marines #26 appears to be the end. Both were probably acquired by Charlton when it purchased the back inventory of Magazine Enterprises in 1954-5. This story, however, if it is part of the presumed longer work, was obviously reworked by the Atlas production staff and almost certainly re-lettered and inked by someone else other than Check himself (even a cursory comparison to the other two stories mentioned will make that obvious). It remains possible that this was a stand-alone Civil War work, but the similarities in visual composition and writing make that unlikely.
