Johnny Thunder [John Tane]; Swift Deer
As a test of manhood, JT's friend Swift Deer must keep the peace in Mesa City for 24 hours - with only his badge for a "weapon". A shaman gives the boy a magical rattle, and Swift Deer ties the badge to it. While Johnny jumps rooftops and fires surreptitious shots, Swift Deer waves his talisman and "rattles" bad guys into surrendering.

Foley of the Fighting 5th
The Colonel is not happy to find chimps, parrots, an elephant and more on his parade ground. Lt Dan Foley rescued the zoo-bound animals but not the keeper, who was killed by Sioux. Moving up the pass, Foley's squad is trapped in a cave. But parrots act as scouts, chimps throw back burning arrows, and an elephant charge routs the Sioux, and the threat of war is averted. Even the Colonel relents and lets the animals stay - until they can be picked up.

Strong Bow
The Blanket of Seven Nations, a symbol of peace, is stolen by Chief Katana's rebels. They hold it atop a mesa and drive back all comers. Only Strong Bow, the Wandering Warrior, can shoot ladders of arrows and springboard-arrows to reach the mesa's top and rescue the blanket - and clear the way for the "flatlanders" to round up Katana's gang.
