As several JLAers experience a sudden power loss, Flash finds that someone has used powers like theirs to steal a European catfish and a cicada. Snapper suggests the thefts have to do with someone researching immortality, and the JLA splits up to investigate other long-lived creatures. In every case, the JLAers come up against Amazo, who steals their powers, defeats them, and takes them to his creator's lab, where Professor Ivo is preparing an immortality serum. Green Lantern is able to use the weakness of his own ring against Amazo and Ivo, restore the JLA's powers, and defeat the villain.

Felix Faust learns that the Demons Three--Abnegazar, Rath, and Ghast--can only be freed from a spell involving the Red Jar of Calythos, the Green Bell of Uthool, and the Silver Wheel of Nyorlath, which were hidden long ago by their jailers, the Timeless Ones. Meanwhile, the Lord of Time unleashes warriors of the past and future on the present to steal for him. Klonmark
The JLA learns of the plight of three Sfarlian scientists who are transported from one world to another, and soon after they leave, the planet they left explodes. The JLAers accompany the Sfarlians and eventually arrive on the home world of the being using the energy created by the Sfarlians to power his weapons, Kraad. There, all the JLAers but the Atom are disintegrated. The Atom uses Green Lantern's ring to reintegrate the Leaguers, and though he scrambles the men's upper and lower halves, they manage to defeat Kraad.

An extradimensional being prevents the JLAers from succeeding as a team when he discovers their success drains his life-force. Snapper suggests they reactivate Amazo, whose JLA-derived power overloads the being. Then the JLA must defeat Amazo and solve the crimes "I" prevented them from successfully solving before.

The Crime Syndicate is so bored of life on their Earth, designated as Earth-3, as supreme villains, that they come to the JLA's Earth for a new challenge after Ultraman accidentally discovers it when exposed to Green Kryptonite (which gives him a new power with every exposure to it). Just as it looks like the JLA has the upper hand, the Crime Syndicate teleports them to Earth-3, where they have the advantage. To secure a level battlefield, the Crime Syndicate plans to go to the Earth-2 and eliminate the JSA.

The JSA is tricked into being transported to an inter-dimensional prison by the Crime Syndicate (using the same word 'Volthoom' that captured the JLA last issue), so the JLA must battle the Crime Syndicate on Earth-2. The JLA then gets the Syndicate to over-exert themselves, imprisons them between the dimensions, and later frees the JSA from their dimensional trap set by the Syndicate to destroy the earths should they have lost vs. both teams.
