Alexander Flynn promises to help Dazzler with her powers if she will come perform at Hugo Longride's underground theater. Despite Beast's protests she agrees. Beast follows and is horrified to find that the theater is a giant arena where mutants battle. Alex promises Dazzler that the whole thing is staged but a mutant is killed during combat. Beast tries to get Dazzler to leave but she refuses.

Beast and Dazzler continue their romance, even though he strongly disapproves of her fighting in an underground mutant arena. This causes tension and they engage in a lovers spat. Beast investigates a lab in the complex and discovers that Dazzler has been given a potion that makes her powers go haywire. Beast is caught and given the same potion. In the arena, Dazzler faces a feral Beast and they wage a brutal battle before a cheering crowd. The pair snap out of it before they kill each other but the audience still wants blood. Flynn placates them by killing Longride and taking over the arena.

Dr. Doom arrives at the underground mutant arena to find the owner dead at the hands of Flynn. It turns out that Longride was a robot placed by Doom to keep tabs on Flynn who claims to be his son. Flynn tells the mutants that he plans on using them to help him overthrow Latveria so he can take his rightful place on the throne. Realizing the plan is madness, Max frees the chained up Beast and Dazzler and they revolt against Flynn. Doom warns the fallen Flynn that he had better stop telling people that he is Doom's son.
