A group of settlers land on the planet Pharisee. They encounter a large predator dubbed a piranosaur attacking a small, cute creature. The expedition leader calls it a winky due to its rapid eye blinking. The colonists attach to their winkies as pets. When the leader's son is killed by a piranosaur, the colonists wipe out the dinosaur-like creatures. This is a mistake as the piranosaurs controlled the winky population. Without any natural predators, the winkies promulgate at an astounding rate and become carnivorous. They wipe out the colonists.
