Disclose Notes: Reprint books are often recolored for republication. For this volume, the title page gives the colorists for the collected edition as Wildstorm FX, Jeromy Cox, Alex Sinclair, Nick Bell, and Digital Chameleon. These are the colorists credited with the colors on the original publications, so the indexer has made the assumption that the collected version was prepared with the same color separations used for the original publication, and has retained the original colorist credits for individual chapters.

Told in the form of a research paper; presumably Sophie's research into the Promethea character as she's encountered her in her literary manfestation prior to the events of this story. Sophie presents a much condensed version of this information to Barbara in the main story. It will soon become apparent that Barbara is already very familiar with this knowledge, as Sophie will discover over the next several stories.

In Alexandria in 411 A.D., a magician sends his daughter Promethea into the desert before he is mobbed and killed. In present-day New York, university student Sophie Bangs becomes interested in the character of Promethea, who appears in poems, comic strips, pulp novels, and comic books. She visits the widow of the last writer of the Promethea comic, and unwittingly sets off a chain of events that will lead to her becoming the next incarnation of Promethea.
