Gold Key to Hold Surprise Party for Mickey Mouse

A look at many of the Gold Key Comics on sale in October 1968, highlighting the 25-cent giant Mickey Mouse Surprise Party. Also focus blurbs on Doctor Solar Man of the Atom, Daniel Boone, Tarzan of the Apes, Turok Son of Stone, The Lone Ranger, The Jetsons, The Flintstones, Yogi Bear, Hanna-Barbera Super TV Heroes, Huckleberry Hound, and Walt Disney Comics Digest. No issue numbers are given. The image of Mickey Mouse used in this promo does not look as if it originated with Western Publishing. It is more likely that it was supplied by the Walt Disney Studios - and appears to have been drawn by Floyd Gottfredson, who was still drawing the Mickey Mouse daily newspaper strip, as he had since 1930. Gottfredson was also known for character publicity artwork such as this. The figure of Mickey is drawn in the style with which Gottfredson drew the character in the 1960s and 1970s.
