The Cooley Gang terrorize a town, and as they leave they demand food and water. The first time they try to slake their thirst they discover the water has been salted. One of the gang knows of a nearby town with a deep well and a bank. When they arrive, the streets are deserted except for an army detachment who are waiting for them.

This gives him a new found respect and trust, and patients line up to be treated by him.
