However, when the ship returns to pick them up eight hours later, the two men are missing, so Commander Maxwell orders one of the moonlets brought aboard so that it could be taken back to Earth, where it is discovered the moonlet is actually a living spore.

Commander Harwood stared in horror at the set of three lights...
A crew makes an emergency landing on a planet after their engine reactor is damaged. They need to stay there while the reactor recharges. Months pass and they run out of rations. The food on the planet is poisonous and inedible. When the crew contemplate cannibalism, the captain tells them they can eat the food because he treated it. They do and die. The reason the captain lied was because he'd rather have he and his men die then resort to cannibalism. Just as he eats the poison food, the reactor of the ship has finally been recharged.
