As drawn, the black-cloaked phantom could be taken for Mickey Mouse's comics arch foe The Phantom Blot - particularly as rendered "eyeless" by Mickey Mouse daily newspaper strip artist Floyd Gottfredson in the Blot's 1939 debut. https://tiahblog.blogspot.com/2019/07/adventures-in-comic-boxing-scooby-doo.html

New story.

CHARACTER NAME NOTES:

"Mr. Stanislaus" and "Mr. Oliveri" are clearly analogs (if only in name) for "Stan and Ollie", renowned film comedy performers Stan Laurel and Oliver Hardy - though they neither look, nor act, like them.

The spelling of "Mr. Oliveri" name is inconsistent within the story. On pages 3 and 10, it is spelled "OLIVERI" and on page 4, it is spelled "OLIVER".
-------------

A nice effect occurs when Velma switches on her "Spectra-Vision goggles". Panels have a green "negative effect" and are seen through Velma's POV.

Writer Chuck Dixon is best known for his long and popular run of work on Batman and Batman-related characters and titles. Here, he stretches his (bat) wings and produces a good, solid Scooby-Doo story - and an unconventional one at that.
