Synopsis: Henri LeBeau sneaks into X-Mansion and tells his young stepbrother, Gambit, that the time of the tithing has come and he is needed in New Orleans as the Assassins Guild is trying to break the old pacts. As they are speaking, Henri is cut down by an assassin’s arrow. Gambit gives chase and discovers that the killer is Julien, the "dead" brother of his wife. Learning that Bella Donna is also alive (she was "killed" in X-Men (Marvel, 1991 series) #8), Gambit and Rogue prepare to leave for New Orleans.

Synopsis: Gambit returns to New Orleans and finds Bella Donna in a coma. Her father, Marius, challenges Remy to a duel of honor but their fight is broken up. Rogue helps Gambit take Bella Donna to the Thieves Guild but they interrupt the tithing ceremony and the Tithe Collector leaves. Remy demands that his father give Bella Donna a sip of the Elixir of Life, the secret to the Thieves Guild's longevity. When his father refuses, Gambit decides to get some himself. Julien and his assassins attack the Tithe Collector for the serum. Gambit leaves Rogue to guard Bella Donna and confronts Candra herself.

Synopsis: Gambit gains an audience with Candra, benefactress of the Thieves Guild. She agrees to provide him with a vial of the Elixir of Life for Bella Donna but only if Remy kills his father. Their negotiations are interrupted by Julien and his rogue assassins. Gambit saves Candra from them. Gambit receives a kiss for his heroism and leaves but Candra quickly discovers that he stole the elixir off of her. Candra tells the Tithe Collector to kill Gambit as a traitor. Rogue accidentally touches Bella Donna and witnesses her love affair with Gambit through her memories.

Synopsis: Gambit has gained the Elixir of Life but has to battle through the combined forces of the guilds to get to Bella Donna. Julien attacks and shatters the vial. Candra promises to restore the pact and powers if Gambit is killed but both Guilds forsake her and turn from the old ways. With the Guilds finally at peace, Gambit's father commands that he help preserve it by leaving for good. Gambit drips a few drops of the serum into Bella Donna's mouth in hopes she will be restored. His wife wakes up but without her memories. Driving Rogue off, Gambit is left to walk the streets of New Orleans, alone.
