Flash is captured and drugged into obeying Azura, but Zarkov and Dale restore his memory and escape. Zarkov completes a machine to makes Flash invisible. Flash invades Azura's palace and kidnaps Azura, but as the invisibility starts to wear off he is forced to take her into the Pit of Peril where the Death Dwarfs live. Flash and Azura appear to face a certain death, but Zarkov and Date rescue them. Grateful for saving her life, Azura declares Flash King of Kira.

Flash declares war on Ming when Ming refuses to recognize Flash as the King of Kira. The turning point in the war occurs when Aura, Ming's daughter, betrays her husband, King Barin, and notifies Ming of Flash's plans. Flash is taken prisoner, but escapes and takes on various disguises to escape Ming's soldiers. Zarkov and Dale also arrive in disguise and attempt to rescue Flash. Eventually, they manage to make their escape.

The ship carrying Flash, Zarkov and Dale is hit by a magneto-ray, forcing the occupants to bail out into the "Sea of Mystery". Eventually, all three are captured and turned into water breathers to survive under the sea. They escape and use Lord Triton as a hostage to negotiate. Undina agrees to let Flash and his friends go free if he will help her fight in her war against Ming. Flash helps defeat Ming and, after her marriage to Triton, a grateful Undina restores their air-breathing lungs and sets them free.
