Mickey addresses the readers in the opening splash panel, acting as a host. The story resumes conventionally after that.

At one point, Mickey is explicitly presumed dead by his commanding officer.

Mickey's use of the word "Ug!" (page 9, panel 5) and a greater level of humor than in a typical Carl Fallberg Mickey Mouse adventure story point to Bob Ogle as having written this story.

The original 1964 printing displayed a "banner" at the top of the opening splash panel reading "Walt Disney's A Mickey Mouse Club Comic", with what appears to be clip-art of the 1950s-era Mickey Mouse Club clubhouse. That banner is removed for this 1977 reprint.
