Thor becomes disillusioned with his life as a god because of the suffering he's witnessed as Donald Blake. Abandoning his hammer, he tries to live a normal life, but Odin keeps returning his hammer to him. Sif tries to understand Thor's decision and for a while lives like a mortal alongside Blake but ultimately grows frustrated by his rejection of godhood and exits. During an operation on a child, Blake loses his nerve, but Sif returns and helps him find his courage, reminding him how Thor would never fail to brave danger to save others. Blake comes to terms with his identity as Thor.
