Mary Richards wanted fun, thrills, adventure...
Small-town girl Mary moves in to a New York apartment with Debbie and Vickie, and gets caught up in their wild, partying lifestyle. Mary is attracted to Brian, whom she meets accidentally, but instead dates flashy Fred, only to learn he’s married and merely wants her as his mistress. Debbie dates drug dealer Lucky, who abuses and eventually murders her; Vickie takes an overdose of sleeping pills. Mary learns Brian is an assistant district attorney: they get married and have a child.

Tony grows up on the streets to avoid her drunken, abusive father. She uses her beauty to control men, eventually convincing a group of her admirers to organise into a criminal gang. The men fight among themselves over her, and Tony has to flee. She’s arrested and her childhood friend Jamesie is appointed her lawyer. He convinces the judge to send her to reform school instead of prison. Jamesie will be waiting for her when she is released.
