Kathy, Lew and Bill grow up together in the slums. She is courted by both men: Bill becomes a policeman and Lew grows wealthy via shady dealing. Kathy is conflicted until Lew hits a boy with his auto and refuses to donate blood to save the child’s life. She will marry Bill, Lew will be arrested, and the boy will recover with blood transfusions from his neighbours.

Ben’s land is taken and he tries to dynamite the railroad but Russ stops him. Ben realises he’s been irrationally bitter since his wife’s death, and gives his blessing to Lorna and Russ.
