Carl Reiner (1945-2020) was an actor, writer and director who was active on Broadway and television at the time this story was published but was hardly a household name. It's possible the name is just a coincidence, or perhaps an in-joke by the scripter of this story. The Reiner character in the story does not resemble the real Carl Reiner physically.
