No sooner than a statue of a Chinese Guardian Spirit is exhibited at an American museum, than the ghost of the Guardian Spirit appears at the opening gala, demanding that the statue be returned to China.

The implied, but not overtly mentioned, crime behind this story is very likely drug smuggling - per the oblique dialogue on page 10, panel 5. Not exactly a "typical case" for Scooby and the gang.
