Synopsis: Superman releases Ak-Var from the Phantom Zone since he has served his sentence. Before bringing him to Kandor, Superman allows Ak-Var to explore Earth. Once in Kandor, Ak-Var greets his three old friends Vas-Quor, Brenn-Bir, and Kyl-Ibo. When these three rob a museum using super-powers, the authorities think Ak-Var must be to blame. Vas-Quor disguises himself as "Gan-Lar", so that he can frame Ak-Var. Superman and Ak-Var help expose the criminals. Ak-Var explains that he accidentally gave his former friends super-powers due to his exposure on his tour of Earth to a piece of Red Kryptonite.

Disclose Notes: Superman's original Fortress appeared in Superman #58 (May 1949), no resemblance to the current version. Called Fort Superman on the cover, inside it's called the Fortress of Solitude. Though the fortress key on the cover is shown as skeleton key, in this story the classic square edged version is shown.

The lower right corner of the splash page, which depicts Superman sitting in a chair and using his super-vision, is used as the illustration that appears at the top of the Metropolis Mailbag letter column in Action Comics #245-271 and Superman #124-145.
