Felix asks a suddenly-sentient jack-in-the-box how toys can speak: "All of us toys speak! We just wait till the humans go home before we hold our conversations!"
This story uses a variation on the standard "Felix the Cat Harvey Comics Logo" where the words "the Cat" are plainly lettered in black with no depth or coloring.
A reworking of many of the elements of the lead story in Felix the Cat Winter Annual (Toby, 1954 Series) #2 (Winter 1954) titled "Felix the Cat and the Merry Midgets", which was reformatted from the "Merry Midgets" continuity of Otto Messmer's original Felix newspaper strips of 1939.
Differing from Messmer's original story, the villainous wooden toy soldier here is named "Captain Bully", while in Messmer's original he was called "Cap Woody". Also, in Messmer's original, there are no references to the tale taking place in a department store.
