The design of The Big H Kid consists of the Harvey Comics logo, with a boy's head, two arms, and two legs - and would be Harvey's analog to the more well-known, and similarly designed, publisher mascot Johnny DC.

This is NOT the text story "A Curious Tale" that originated in Pat Sullivan's Felix the Cat (Toby, 1951 Series) #20 - and reprinted in Toby's issue #37. This is a text story that apparently originated with Harvey and does not feature Felix the Cat. Previous indexers had confused the two. That reprint link has been removed.

However, this *is* an almost word-for-exact-word remake of the story in Felix the Cat #20 but with the main character called "Pokey Pig" instead of Felix the Cat. Below are the first and last paragraphs of the Toby and Harvey versions for comparison purposes:

TOBY (First Paragraph): "Felix the Cat was in his kitchen - complete with apron and chef's hat preparing his supper. He was whistling merrily as the shiny pots bubbled on top of the stove, and from the oven, the tempting smell of roast beef wafted toward his nose."

HARVEY (First Paragraph): "Pokey Pig was in his kitchen - complete with chef's hat and apron, whistling merrily as the shiny pots bubbled and hissed on the top of the stove. From the oven came the tempting smell of roast beef wafting through the kitchen. Pokey was preparing his supper."

TOBY (Last Paragraph): "'Oooh!' Felix wailed. 'I'll never let my curiosity get the best of me again!'"

HARVEY (Last Paragraph): "'Oooh!' wailed Pokey. 'I'll never let my curiosity get the better of me again!'"

No reason is known for this unusual reworking of such a minor text story but (perhaps coincidently, perhaps not) both versions appeared respectively in the first issue of Felix the Cat from Toby Press (#20), and the first issue of Felix the Cat from Harvey (#62).
-------

This appears to be the earliest occurrence of this oft-reprinted text story of the printings indexed at GCD. Should an earlier printing be discovered, this note should be updated.

Much verbiage is devoted to Pokey Pig's careful preparation of his dinner, making it all the more unfortunate that he doesn't get to enjoy it.
