The Fiction Magazine Index site states that Cliff Howe is a house pseudonym of Lester Dent, however that same site states that this story first appeared in the pulp magazine Western Trails dated May 1938 written by Frank Carl Young. It appears that the house name Cliff Howe may have been used in this case even though written by Young.
