DCCO32021
"Nocturna, Mistress of Midnight" is clearly a tribute to TV horror film host Elvira, Mistress of the Dark.

Although this could only be coincidence, given this story is of 2013 vintage, but the character of Nocturna (sans fright wig) rather resembles a "Scooby-Doo style" pencil and ink version of Jodie Whittaker, who assumed the role of The Doctor for Doctor Who 2017.

This story offers "Special Thanks to Leandro Corral".

Veejay "Parson Weakly" is a parody/tribute character of former MTV VJ Carson Daly. Music show host "Clark Barr" is a parody/tribute character of Dick Clark, whom Shaggy describes as "...The hottest M.C. of THE teen music show in the '50's and '60's 'American Grandstand' and he still hosts 'Rollin' In the New Year'!"

"American Grandstand" is a parody reference to pop music show "American Bandstand". "Rollin' In the New Year" is a parody reference to "Dick Clark's New Year's Rockin' Eve" - the famous annual broadcast where the "New Year's Ball" drops from a tower in New York's Times Square.

GOOD META BIT: Shaggy remains uncharacteristically calm when the ghost first appears.
VELMA: "Aren't you going to say 'ZOINKS!' and freak out?"
SHAGGY: "I already said it once today. I don't want it to become some kind of trite catchphrase!"
...But, by the very next panel, Shaggy has indeed exclaimed "ZOINKS!" and freaked out.
