Ms. Marvel attempts to bring in Spider-Man as an unregistered hero. Their battle is interrupted by local cars that are turning into giant robots. Spidey tracks down the source of the robots and finds--more robots. Auto magnate Stuart Cavenger has created a horde of duplicates of himself in order to take over the drudge tasks in his daily life. One of these robots has a bit of a destructive streak and has taken unauthorized initiative in creating auto havoc. Spidey and Ms. Marvel stop the robots and save the day and the web-slinger eludes Ms. Marvels grasp in the aftermath.

Ms. Marvel captures some strange soldiers of Chilean origin who seem to be mind controlled and who have been capturing women with super powers. The Puppet Master adds Arana to his collection.

Carol and her Lightning Storm team battle Tigra, Silverclaw, Stature and Arana, all under Puppet Master's influence. When Arana is commanded to kill Carol, she snaps out of her brainwashing. Ms. Marvel confronts Puppet Master and lets him blow himself up. On the way home, Carol has a chat with the Beast about the voices in her head and the mini-helicarrier is attacked and breached by her old enemy, Cru.

Ms. Marvel faces her old foe, Cru, whom she believed to be dead. Machine Man and Sum try to drive Cru off but things take a strange turn when Cru links up with Ms. Marvel and transports her to Monster Isle. It turns out that Cru is an alien woman who left part of herself in Carol's bloodstram during their last conflict. This explains why Carol keeps turning blue and healing in times of stress. As Cru tries to extract the part of herself she left in Carol, the Brood arrive on the scene.

Carol once again has her Binary powers as she fights alongside her Lightning Storm allies against the Brood. Her cosmic powers burn out just as she gets down to confronting the Brood Queen. Cru arrives on the scene, once again whole, just in time for the Brood Queen to kill her. Ms. Marvel takes the Brood Queen into space and blows her up. Carol and her allies return to their somewhat normal lives just in time to learn of the Skrull invasion. The only problem is that Tony Stark lets Agent Sum know that Lightning Storm has a Skrull impersonator in their midst--Ms. Marvel herself.

Marvel invades an AIM base but a truck gets away during the conflict. Simon breaks off his relationship with Carol and is assured by Sarah Day that his secret is safe with her. Marvel tracks down the truck only to find that it is transporting a Super Skrull. Carol tries to contact Simon but is unaware that he is already entertaining a woman whom he thinks is Carol Danvers. Marvel finds Williams dead.

Thinking that Ms. Marvel is a Skrull, her Lightning Storm forces try to bring her down. During the battle, a second Ms. Marvel shows up to the party. Both are taken into SHIELD custody and Sum tries to figure out which Ms. Marvel is the real deal. The real Carol is confronted by Sum and, believing him to be a Skrull himself, she attacks. When a second Sum comes into play, the first transforms into a Super Skrull and attacks. Ms. Marvel takes down the Super Skrull. The Skrull Ms. Marvel claims that Carol's boyfriend, William Wagner, was really a Kree, and to top it off, he isn't really dead.

The female Skrull in custody of Lightning Storm tells Carol that her boyfriend, Kree spy William Wagner, is alive and in AIM custody. Ms. Marvel and her allies go after the AIM transport but find that they have been tricked. Ms. Marvel returns to base and angrily demands that their Skrull prisoner tell her where William is being held. Instead, The Skrull tells Ms. Marvel, "He loves you," and the Lightning Storm mini-helicarrier blows up around them. In despair over the destruction of her base, the death and injuries on her team and her missing Kree boyfriend, Carol sleeps with Wonder Man.
