Notes:
Cadets Shev Akria, T'Lann, Grace Chen, Lucia Gonzales, and Vel K'Bentayr were introduced in Starfleet Academy #1 (IDW, 2015 series). Vel K'Bentayr (as specified in the Stafleet Academy series) is referred to as Vel K'Bentyr by Kirk in this issue. Jaylah first appeared in the movie Star Trek Beyond and was featured in issue #5, and was shown to have become a Starfleet Cadet at the end of that issue.
Commander Valas, former first officer of the USS Endeavour under Kirk until she was held captive by the Romulans in issue #4, is shown to resign her Starfleet commission and embrace her Romulan heritage.
Pilok is not identified by name until issue #8.
