Synopsis:
Captain Kirk has been assigned as interim Captain of the USS Endeavour and leads the ship on a one-year exploratory mission. Spock and Uhura have taken leave from Starfleet to spend time on New Vulcan. Sulu has been assigned as First Officer on the USS Concord. The Concord encounters an unknown threat, and sends a distress call that is answered by Kirk and the Endeavour.

Story takes place after the events of Star Trek Beyond. The Enterprise crew has been reassigned to different ships and roles.
Starfleet Cadets Shev Akria, Lucia Gonzales, and T'Lann previously appeared in Star Trek: Starfleet Academy (IDW 2015 Series). They are attendng Scotty's lecture at the Academy, but they are not identified by name in this issue.
Spock's rank is specified as Commander on the Subscription Cover of issue #2. Sulu's formal rank is specified as Commander in issue #2.
Captain Terrell's first name is revealed as Clark in issue #3.
