As Americans make their way into Germany, the Nazis are sending buzz bombs over their heads. Farther east are German troops, coming in the opposite direction, and, they too, experience buzz bombs flying over their heads. However, one German paratrooper senses the bombs are actually heading in their direction instead of at the enemy. For once, he is right, and the bomb kills his two friends, and when the Americans catch up with the lone survivor, he has literally gone insane from fear.

US marines are on the march to the Changjin Reservoir when they are attacked by entrenched enemy soldiers. Due to some precise planning, the sergeant finds a way to sneak upon the enemy and defeat them. However, the marines are then ordered to retreat, something grunt Salisbury doesn't understand from his position on the battlefield. He soon learns that their Marine unit was surrounded by 100,000 Chinese soldiers, facing certain annihilation.

Finishing a game of checkers, Straus and Kilpatrick nearly miss a required briefing of all tank commanders by the C.O., who informs them that a patrol sent down the Kumhwa Road had been ambushed and badly hit, and they needed to be rescued. When the going gets tough, Straus and Kilpatrick manuever their tanks as if they were playing checkers and win the battle, saving the platoon.
