Police show up to stop the crime, but the containing bottle gets broken and the root runs wild. Roy notices that the root is near a thermometer manufacturer, and obtains a barrel of mercury. John faces Mr. Moth, the crook attracted to valuable things that glow in the dark. Moth's spree began with a rooftop clock painted with $10,000 worth of radium. John stops Mr. Moth's blinding light by filling the air with coal dust. Next up on the Moth's agenda is a statue of Atlas coated with phosphorus to make it glow in the dark. When the Manhunter arrives, Mr. Moth escapes by endangering the crowd, drawing John's attention away from him.
