Donald is a member of the Duckburg Watchful Parents Club!
Members of the Duckburg Watchful Parents Club urge Donald to "keep an eye on [his nephews'] safety" while in South America on business for Uncle Scrooge. In Ecuador, the boys fall over a cliff after trying to rescue Donald, who had already climbed partly down the cliff and losing his footing. This results with them all falling down into the river below. Later they find a rubber raft and then spend their time trying to get back to civilization and safety. But, through all this, "who has kept an eye on who"?

Remake of Walt Disney's Comics and Stories (Dell, 1940 series) #58 [Taming the Rapids]. Dialogue: "It is the duty of all parents to keep an eye on their child's safety!"

The title, "The Watchful Parent" was given to this story by Western Publishing for its first American reprint in Walt Disney Comics Digest (Western, 1968 Series) #24 (August 1970), and would qualify as its "official title" originating, as it did, with Western's editorial processes.

Once Scamp makes off with the scooter, the story becomes a near-beat-for-beat remake (or "pre-make", depending on the variables of production) of the 1959 Yogi Bear TV cartoon "Scooter Looter" - with Scamp, as a most unlikely substitute for Yogi, diverting a golfer's ball away from the pin and into a sand trap, and (courtesy of a snagged line) pulling a fisherman and his boat out of the park pond into an encounter with a tree. This issue has a cover date of September 1959, and the Yogi Bear cartoon had an air date of March 19, 1959, so we may never know which predated which. But, if this is an actual "coincidence in writing", then it is a remarkable one.

Ah-h! It fun to be outside on these keen summer days!
