As of last issue, General Ross and his crew thought the Hulk was dead, but in this issue Ross has made elaborate plans for nullifying or killing him.

In the improper use of a character's abilities category: Havok uses his powers in this story to shoot a thin plasma beam at the Hulk's head and use the pain it causes to make the Hulk susceptible to suggestion and he also uses a plasma beam to lower Lorna from the top of a tall cliff to the ground.

The Project Greenskin complex is first referred to as "Hulkbuster Base" in this story.

Credits on page one also note: "Aided by Herb Trimpe and practically the whole bullpen." Trimpe redrew many of the Hulk faces throughout the issue, the caricatures of President Richard Nixon and Vice-President Spiro Agnew, and the Daredevil and Black Widow figures on page 12. Other artists who likely assisted include John Verpoorten, John Romita and Mike Esposito.
Notes:
Reed's seeming act of mercy toward the Hulk at the end of the story turns out to be a sham as the last four panels depict the Hulk weakening and crashing into a building which covers him in rubble. This seems to indicate that Reed knew the Hulk would get a sudden burst of strength followed by debilitating weakness. The captions go even further and insinuate that Reed may have actually been trying to kill the Hulk. Regardless, the Hulk is up again next issue with nothing more than a scant reference to this incident.
