In a neglected corner of Cobra Headquarters Complex under suburban Springfield...
Three Joes are off to California on furlough to surf when they run across three of the Dreadnoks taking a joy ride on Zartan's new holographic motorcycle, which is damaged in the scuffle. Zartan later picks up two of them in a transport chopper holographically disguised as a bus, with Buzzer captured by the Joes, after being told of their joyride by Bludd and the Baroness. The old lady Zartan picks up as a passenger mysteriously disappears after the chopper lands back in Springfield before she can be killed, but it was a disguise as the disguise was discarded.

The Joes lose their cargo ship, the Jane, to the air battle, as the WHALE wins its land battle, but severely damaged to carry anyone to land. Cutter, however, saved the day by contacting the Joes' aircraft carrier, the Flagg, to pick them up afterwards during the air battle.
