Subject Matter
Incredible Science Fiction
The ship is you and you are the ship.
Because astronauts tend to go insane when traveling through space, it is decided to use a human brain as a onboard guidance system on the next rocket into space. The brain was taken from a rocket engineer who had just died in a auto wreck. Despite years of training and conditioning, the disembodied brain panics and goes insane with fear after its rocket is sent into space.

The original plan was to have the brain of an intelligent baby be used to guide the rocket, which explains why in the last panel of the story, the brain cries out for its "Mama". But this was censored and rejected by the Comics Code Authority. An unpublished page from the original concept was published in the EC Archives: Incredible Science Fiction collection by Dark Horse Comics.
