With their sacks full of gold bearing dirt, Sandy, Billy, and Ted return to the brook.
Synopsis:
Ted shows the others how to wash out gold. They load two of their horses. Ted spots a spy, they don their masks, Selden aims to shoot Ted, Sandy beans him with a thrown shovel, Ted starts a slide to hide their gold pocket, and tells Sandy and Billy to ride to town with the loads to buy Chet a new printing press. After they leave, a recovered Selden shoots both Ted and his horse. They topple over the cliff into the river. The horse succumbs to the river's rocks. Ted, his wounded leg washed clean by the current, crawls into a hidden cove along the riverside's cliff walls.
