This is what probably happened!
A group of space explorers find a small planetoid and go to investigate. They are startled by the insect-sized beings who live there and are then attacked by flying and stinging insect-sized objects. They flee. It turns out that it was Earth and those insects were humans and the flying objects were jet fighters.

As far as the eye can see...
A simple minded farmer contacts aliens on his ham radio who plan to visit Earth. This causes the military to confiscate his equipment and his home so they can be there when the aliens arrive. The aliens talk about how they landed on Earth and are being destroyed by giant white objects perplexing everyone. When the Sergeant in charge of this operation bites down on something crunchy while eating a hotdog, he realizes that he was eating the ship. The aliens were microscopic and had landed in the Sauerkraut brine of a local hotdog vender.

In the 21st Century, marriage licenses must be renewed every three years, so a man pays a woman thirty thousand dollars to be his wife for three years, but both agree on no sex. She agrees, and over time, falls in love with him. At the end of the three years she tells him that she'll claim she's expecting a child and the license will automatically renew. But he tells her that she could not be expecting a child and reveals he is a robot, and that he only wanted a wife during the past three years for crucial business negotiation appearances.
