Gilbert Dalziel, son of Edward Dalziel, is named manager, while Ross stays as editor. In 1883, Ross sells his rights to Ally Sloper to Dalziel, thus removing the character from Judy. Following disagreements with Dalziel, Ross leaves Judy for good in 1887. In 1888 Dalziel buys the magazine from his father and uncles.
